VUDU Movie Service Coming to PS3

What comes as somewhat of a suprise, a new move service for PS3 is heading our way. No its no the music services or anything of that nature, its yet another movie service.

VUDU is instant streaming of HD films and HDX films, with a few added bonus. Ok, well maybe just one bonus. All new movies will be added instantly when they release, which will give the store a advantage over the PSN Store's weekly updates. Other than that, there isn't much more to it and there seems to be no other advantage to it. Other than a somewhat clean look, features Netflix recently released, everything remains the same. Even the overpriced movie rentals are the same.

Its kind of odd Sony used the "we don't want Netflix conflicting with our store" excuse a year ago, and now they just don't bother. But hey, its cool the more free features the better. The only thing I wish is these streaming services could provide better prices. Redbox offers 1 dollar rentals for 24 hours, the same amount of time offered through these servies, and Blockbuster will give you five to seven days for the price. Thats physical copies, something more pricey to handle, so whats the big deal?

Ubisoft Partner with LOVEFiLM For AR Marketing Campaign

LOVEFiLM has joined forces with leading international games publisher Ubisoft, offering its members a chance to watch the new trailer of the latest and third instalment of the hugely successful gaming franchise, Assassin's Creed Brotherhood, through augmented reality (AR) - a media first for both companies.

For the first time LOVEFiLM, Europe's largest subscription service streaming movies and TV episodes over the Internet and sending DVDs by post, has created a run of 350 thousand Assassin's Creed Brotherhood themed envelopes that carry an embedded AR code to give gamers an even higher level of interaction with LOVEFiLM's service - envelopes will be delivered directly to members letterboxes and visitors to the site can download and print-off a digital version.

The innovative envelopes were developed by technology specialists Crossplatform TV- experts in AR, Digital Out Of Home (DOOH), Web TV and Mobile.

Online promotion for the game, which is available on PS3T, XBOX 360 and PC formats, centres around the bespoke Assassin's Creed Brotherhood microsite (www.lovefilm.com/brotherhood). It provides fans with a synopsis and visuals of the game and the chance to vote for the Ultimate Film Assassin.

Dionne Georgiou, Media Sales Team Manager for LOVEFiLM commented:

"The Assassin's Creed series is a hugely popular gaming franchise, and we're excited to be working in partnership with Ubisoft and Crossplatform TV to offer our members an even higher level of interaction with the new game via augmented reality envelopes. It is certain to do justice to such a highly regarded game."

Jan Sanghera, Senior Product Manager for Ubisoft commented:

"With a gaming title that is as visually immersive as it is engaging, it's a great opportunity for us to work with LOVEFiLM on the launch of Assassin's Creed Brotherhood. LOVEFiLM acts as the perfect platform for us to spread the Assassin's Creed message to a wide base of entertainment lovers as well as gamers."

Modern Warfare Bundle Heading to PS3

So Black Friday is extremely close, and a lot of ads have already been released. Well I was checking some video game deals out, and found one worth noting here.

According toKmarts black Friday ad, there will be a Modern Warfare bundle coming to at least PS3 gamers. In the ad is a picture of a game box with both Modern Warfare and Modern Warfare 2 on the cover. The price is only $45 so its a steal for anyone that doesn't happen to have either game.

I looked around online for both news of this bundle and other stores selling it, and couldn't find anything. So if this comes as old news to you, I am sorry. The details of the bundle have yet to be released, so we are not sure if all the DLC for both titles will be availible on the disc. Could trophies for COD4 finally be coming?

Stay tuned for more killer deals!

Black Ops Patch Fixes Most But Not All Issues

With Black Ops being the highest selling game of all time, you would expect a lot of common issues to not occur. This wasn't the case for PS3 gamers, and it angered many of them. Well if you took a break due to those issues and are currently waiting for them to be addressed before returning then it might be a good time to check it out.

According to Treyarch a recent patch fixes all of the below:

Improved matchmaking to find matches significantly faster

Improved matchmaking to ensure that players are more effectively matched to games with the best networking conditions

Improved host selection to ensure that the best host is always selected in the pre-game lobby

Improved party system to ensure that parties don’t get broken apart

Disable ability to join Private Match, Combat Training and Theater lobbies when searching for Player Match games

Server-side and game-side changes to decrease the amount of failed Film uploads

Weekly and Monthly leaderboards will now track all kills, deaths and assists properly (All Time leaderboards were not affected by this)

Prevention of Combat Training stats getting crossed with Player Match stats under rare conditions

Prevention of temporary loss of functionality when a button was being held down at the point of a disconnect

Additional fine-tuning of audio levels and ranges for footsteps and gunfire

Additional fine-tuning of audio levels for bomb plants/defuses

Additional online security enhancements

Optimization to prevent friends list from spamming user while in game – will improve game performance for users with large numbers of friends

However a future patch seems to be in the works to address even further issues including spawn points giving teams advantages. At least we should be able to play the game without massive lag now.

PSP A Good Transition to PSP2

PSP has been a strong addition to the PlayStation family. The sales have slipped dramaticly recently, possibly due to the PSP 2 rumors, so a lot of "hateful" comments have been swinging their way. Well at least these comments are helpful for any future handheld Sony makes.

Ready at Dawn co-founder Ru Weerasuriya noted that the PSP was doomed from the very start. While it was a powerhouse system, it lacked many features they wanted in a handheld. Simply stating this was due to the fact this was Sony's first attempt at a handheld market.

“It’s a good platform and you can make amazing things on it. I think that we’ve tried as much as possible to prove that in the last seven years. But it was doomed from the beginning, that’s its biggest problem."

He goes on to note that it should be a good learning tool for PSP2. Sony knows what they need to bring to the table and how to offer it. So hopefuly the powerhouse features will meet the demands and make something cool.

Play LittleBigPlanet 2 This December

LittleBigPlanet was a massive success for PlayStation and the fans cannot get enough of it. Afterall it is one of the most fun games around. Well a LittleBigPlanet 2 is going to be releasing soon, but sadly it got pushed to January instead of this holiday season.

There are no worries though as Sony announce a demo for the upcoming game will be released December 22nd. Yes you can still check out the new gameplay mechanics, including a grappling hook, story levels, and some other odds and ends with the upcoming demo. A Score-based multiplayer mode will also be availible.

So if that doesn't cheer you up, I am not sure what will!

Batman Arkham City To Be Revealed During VGA's

Batman: Arkham Asylum was a great success and seemed to have revived the superhero genre of games. With the announcement of the second one, fans have been excited but there hasn't been much to see.

This is all about to change as Batman Arkham City is getting a full fledged treatment during Spikes Video Game Awards. The awards start on December 11th and we should expect to see an actual trailer from the game, along with the devs possibly giving us some more details. So far we have only seen a teaser trailer and some screenshots, so this could be exciting.

The tweet revealing the info from Geoff reads : "First 2: VGAs to feature world premieres of BATMAN: ARKHAM CITY and the unveiling of the next game from BioWare."

So How Big is Gran Turismo 5?

Since the beginning of time, mankind has waited for the release of Gran Turismo 5. Ok, well maybe not since the beginning of time, but it's been a while. Gran Turismo 5 is finally releasing on Wednesday 24th November, and inevitably it has been leaked on to the internet beforehand.

So how big is this game? God of War 3 was approximately 40GB in size, and a game like Gran Turismo 5, which has over 1000 cars and tons of levels and gameplay modes must be just as big right?

Wrong, the game is approximately 19.5GB in size, still too big for a DVD, but I'm guessing everyone expected it to be bigger than that. The small size can however be explained easily if the game is using more shaders rather than textures, because the cars don't necessarily need to be textured, and a shader actually looks more natural.

GT5 EU and US Release Date Announced

Wednesday November 24, 2010. Mark that date on your calendars because that's when Gran Turismo is coming out in both PAL markets and North America, just in time for Black Friday. Kazunori Yamauchi announced the date, along with the following statement:

"Gran Turismo 5 is an ambitious project, with challenges and complexities which have made it our version of the Apollo Space Program! When we created the original Gran Turismo back in 1997, we wanted to set a completely new precedent for the racing genre. With the technological leap onto PlayStation 3, our objective with Gran Turismo 5 was to create another great revolution which would not only satisfy our own high expectations, but would meet or even exceed the anticipation of the fans. Satisfying the loyal Gran Turismo followers is at the heart of all of our efforts, which is why it was such a difficult decision to delay the release of the game, and one which we did not take lightly. I can only apologize to everyone for making you wait so long, and I hope that when you try out the wealth of driving experiences available in Gran Turismo 5, you will not be disappointed."

The official box art has also been unveiled which can be viewed below:

No PSPGo Price Drop For The UK

As you may have read, there was to be a price drop of 30 GBP on the PSPGo. Sony is now refuting that report, stating that this was a website error. Upon checking the official website, the GO is still priced at 129. Sony states that it will be fixed sometime today. Though if they were smart, they'd honor any purchases made at the (still current) price as that's just good business. But then again, Sony has some odd ways of doing business as it relates to customers at times as well.

Something else to consider is that this error could turn into quite the profit for Sony, with Christmas fast approaching. They would see more volume of sales if they put out a dictum that basically stated that the price was in error, but to thank customers for loyalty and with the holiday season around the corner, they'll keep the price as is till Dec. 26. If I were them I'd sing it to the rooftops as well.

Treyarch Helped Modern Warfare 2 Online

The highly anticipated Call of Duty: Black Ops recently released and has mixed feelings. If you are not playing on Xbox 360 it seems to be luck of the draw as to rather or not you have online issues. This means alot of people are still saying Treyarch has yet to live up to Infinity Ward on the series.

Activision's Bobby Kotick says otherwise. "That’s an unfair view of Treyarch. You know it’s not really an objective view. Treyarch contributed so significantly to the multiplayer technology that’s in Modern Warfare 2 and they didn’t really get the credit for that.”

I don't know how much Treyarch helped and I don't know how much Modern Warfare 1 helped, but I do know Black Ops is having some massive issues. So if Treyarch wants that respect a nice little patch or quick fix will bring it rather easily. Black Ops is a great game and you will see our review later today.

Games = Violence According to Survey

Well, it looks like Americans still think that video games can be linked to violent behavior. In a recent telephone survey, done by Pulse Opinion Research on behalf of Rasmussen Reports, 54% of those that responded felt that the more violent videogames do cause violence in real life. This has been discredited several times over, and yet still persists. The question for me is: why?

One thing to consider is that no parent ever wants to take the responsibility of saying that they didn't watch their kid enough, or weren't as interested in the types of games they were playing. Instead, they'd much rather blame society, games, developers and so on, instead of looking in the mirror. With the ESRB, the ratings are clearly marked on the game, so as a parent, if you see that and still buy the game then you need to explain to your kid that what they may see/play is NOT the accepted way to function in society.

In short, I do believe that more education is needed, but not for the kids. For the parents. Ultimately, they need to teach right from wrong, and take a firm hand in their child's game playing activity. Take the time to consider the game that your child wants. Actually do the research on it. And if you find you're not comfortable with what you see, don't get it. There is, of course, nothing stopping them from playing the game at a friend's house.

Point is, I've never truly understood why this is SUCH a big issue. After all, the level of violence on TV and in the movies is much higher. But because the violence in video games is interactive that must mean that the player will do the same in real life right? Not only is that insulting to kids, it is insulting to game players of any age.

Dead Nation to Release November 30th

PSN has something spreading through the store like a virus. It's zombies! Yes another zombie game will be heading our way by the end of the month.

It has been announced that Dead Nation will be releasing on November 30th. The game will retail on PSN for $14.99, not bad at all compared to other games. The game will feature tons of things like a "meta game" which will put country-vs-country in a high score battle. Much like Battlefield 1943 did PS3 vs Xbox 360 in a kills battle. The game will also break new grounds by throwing more zombies than ever at you, with each zombie still full of detail.

Sounds interesting, we can't wait to get our hands on it!

So, What Is the Most Used Console?

With the Xbox 360 and PS3, as well as 3D TV and HD (acronym city!), you'd think that by now with market penetration as well as being over 4 years old, the most used console in Japan would be either of those two, right? After all, with the technology and graphical goodness, games can be so much more immersive than they were even a few years ago. But something to consider is that no matter how old a particular game is, if the storytelling is spot-on and the immersion factor is high, you will come back and play it. I still play the NES classic Metroid and have a blast. The game is so well done it just sucks me in. And this was in the day of 8 bit graphics!

In a recent survey in Japan, the most used console still is (get ready) the PS2. This proves to me at least, that you can have all the graphics in the world but if your story sucks, you won't be making sales. 70 percent of those polled still favor the PS2. This is a testament to the longevity of the system itself (a fact that is bolstered by Sony still supporting it....unlike Microsoft with the first Xbox).

Angry Birds Heading to PSN With Multiplayer

Angry Birds is taking over every smart phone in the world by storm. So it was only a matter of time before this "virus" came to consoles right?

Well of course! Angry Birds is in fact coming to consoles very soon, and with it comes a suprise. The title is supposedly going to have a "Worms" like multiplayer to tag along with it. Some things they noted about the title:

Multiplayer Angry Birds will be like old-school Worms PC games.

Multiplayer is a priority, but the developer is still trying to figure out how it will work.

Rovio’s role models are Pixar and Nintendo’s Super Mario series. It does not plan to emulate the addictive microtransactions of popular titles like Zynga’s FarmVille.

A traditional sequel isn’t currently in development, but Versterbacka hinted toward a new game told from the pigs’ point of view.

Rovio wants Angry Birds to be bigger than Tetris (Blasphemous! If Tetris is the Jesus of video games, Rovio must be its John Lennon).

Time to Get Wet Again

If you like grind-house style games then you must remember Wet. This game makes a lot of action in crazy moves with Quentin Tarantino-stylized  visuals and you either loved it or hated it. There really was no in between.and if that is the case, well I have got good news for you: there will in fact be an official sequel to wet. The developer, Behavior, (A2M rebranded) has recently confirmed this plus a sequel to Naughty Bear:

"We're working on Wet 2 right now and Naughty Bear 2, he team is still at it, but that's all I can say," Behaviour CEO RĂ©mi Racine said.

Interestingly enough, despite low earnings, Racine had nothing but praise for publisher Bethesda, who inherited the game from Vivendi in the middle of the Activion-Blizzard merger. It could have very easily been lost in the shuffle:

""We were very happy with Bethesda's commitment. But, in their defense, we probably signed them too late. We should have signed them probably six months prior so we had more time to market the game. I think they came in late. Still, they did a very good job of promoting the game in the community. In the time that they had they did a very good job."

Here's hoping that the next instalment fixes some of the issues that many found in terms of story and playability. Here's also hoping that the sequel does much better, because with the unique look and gameplay, it really does deserve to be a top game.
